Oceanographic Research Vessel

This vessel is used for studies in fields related to oceanography (marine organisms, the seabed, identification of marine food resources, hydrography, marine geotechnics, seabed surveying, marine-environment research and the general characteristics of the waters of each marine region), as well as for transporting researchers and carrying out oceanographic research activities in domestic and international waters, over long distances and with a navigation duration of about 30 days without the need to refuel or take on supplies at sea. The vessel is equipped with a propulsion system comprising two engines with controllable-pitch propellers. It also has two transverse thrusters for better maneuvering when launching and recovering oceanographic systems and equipment, so that this propulsion does not interfere with carrying out these activities. The vessel’s structure is of grade-A marine plate, and its superstructure is of marine aluminum; the materials and equipment used are suitable for this category of vessel and comply with the regulations of classification societies. The hull is also prepared so that acoustic-wave systems and equipment (echo sounders, sensors, etc.) can be installed for the relevant activities.

The machinery, winches, equipment, pumps and auxiliary machinery, the ventilation system and everything else installed and assembled on the vessel are fitted in accordance with the relevant guidelines and to control noise and vibration — this is especially important in key locations such as the laboratories, the accommodation and the vessel’s bridge.

This vessel and its equipment are built and installed in accordance with the regulations and under the supervision of classification societies.
