800-, 2000- and 4000-Tonne Floating Dock

The floating dock is designed for docking light-displacement vessels of 4,000 tonnes at sea (in water with a specific gravity of 1,025 kg/m³). This floating dock has ballast tanks with a capacity of 700 tonnes to compensate for trim at its bow and stern and to reduce the longitudinal bending the dock may experience.

Under certain conditions, discharging the ballast-tank water can raise the floating dock’s lifting capacity to about 4,700 tonnes. When the dock is docking a 4,000-tonne vessel, the metacentric height is 2.5 meters, and the dock’s center of gravity must be 9 meters above the keel blocks; this applies when the bottom of the docked vessel, weighing about 4,000 tonnes, is in the water. Relative to the dock’s length, the pumping time — from when the docked vessel contacts the keel blocks until the dock’s pontoon emerges from the water at the outer side of the dock’s wing walls — must be less than 90 minutes.

The cross-section of the floating dock is U-shaped. The dock consists of a continuous tank chamber as its lower part, known as the carrying body, and two continuous walls as its wings. The maximum cargo capacity of the dock, at a freeboard of 0.4 meters from the pontoons, is about 50 tonnes per meter of dock length. The load capacity for the bow and stern platforms attached to the pontoons is about 1,000 kg/m². The load capacity of the dock’s upper deck is 500 kg, and the attached cargo-transfer bridge is also 500 kg. The dock’s structure is built of welded grade-A marine steel, and 100 steel keel blocks 1.75 meters high, rated for a 60-tonne load, are provided.

Welfare facilities for 20 of the dock’s crew are located in the left wing wall, and welfare facilities for 80 of the personnel and crew of the docked vessel are located in the right wing wall.

The calculations for this dock assume that it is towed by a tug, and that the ballast operation is performed using 4 pumps with a capacity of 2,000 m³/h. There are also 32 auxiliary pumps in the cross tunnels in the pontoons. Three 400-kW diesel generators are provided, plus one more as a backup. There are also two air compressors with a capacity of 7 m³/min in the dock. This floating dock is designed for the marine conditions of the Persian Gulf. All materials and equipment used are of the marine type and suitable for this kind of vessel.

The dock is equipped with several types of equipment, including pumps, a ventilation system, air conditioning, internal and external firefighting systems, safety systems, etc.

This floating dock is built under the supervision and according to the regulations of classification societies.
