The first national waterjet engine, produced by the Marine Industries Organization’s specialists in cooperation with universities, was unveiled this morning (Tuesday) in the presence of Amir Hatami, Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics. On the sidelines of the ceremony, the Minister of Defense, stating that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a maritime country with vast opportunities, said: making use of these opportunities requires maritime power, and one of its prerequisites is having marine tools and facilities. He added: propulsion systems are among the most important requirements and assets of the marine industry; earlier this year we unveiled the 1,300-horsepower diesel engine, which has many applications in the marine and rail sectors. Today the waterjet propulsion system — one of the essential needs of military, commercial and recreational vessels in the country — was also unveiled. Amir Hatami concluded: because we have fully acquired the technical capability to design and build it, we will be able to produce this engine in various power ratings.
